Make a Difference Day

National Make A Difference Day is held each October and generally lines up with the County's Fall Clean Up Day.

Volunteer to help someone, somehow. Make a Difference Activities include:

  • Helping Hands Outreach (If you know a family/individual who is in need of shoes, coats, socks and t-shirts and know their sizes, please contact Lucille Stanson directly at (760) 253-1021 Dana Park, Barstow Road, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Kids Care Fair - Free children's immunizations and health screenings. Cora Harper Community Center, Barstow Road 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Free Recycle/Dump Day, County Landfill open on Barstow Road, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., FREE. Household Hazardous Waste Bin open every Saturday for FREE from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., 900 South Ave. H. Take all recyclable metal to the City Corporation Yard on Clean Up Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for FREE.
  • City Wide Garage Sales - City sponsored yard sales. Contact Desert Dispatch to enter your address, city limits ONLY, for FREE ad for this day. You hold the sale at your address, city pays for ad and full page map printed.

Starbucks - "Make Your Mark" When you bring a new or gently-used book designed for the K-12 grader to their booth you will receive a FREE beverage (coffee, hot cider or hot chocolate). FREE face-painting!! Help Starbucks in supporting literacy and our youth in Barstow. Dana Park 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
