Most cities offer special, scheduled pickups of bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, and appliances. But if your bulky items are still in good shape, consider contacting an agency such as Goodwill who will make the items available for reuse or new purposes. Remember, it is more ecological to reuse something in its current form than to consume more energy recycling it.
