Prevent Scavaging from Recycling Containers

Help prevent scavenging by placing your recycling bin out the morning of your pick-up. Call the City of Barstow Police Department at (760) 256-2211 to report any scavenging activities in your neighborhood. Better recycling happens in the morning.

The City recognizes your efforts and pride you take in recycling. Unfortunately there has been an increase in the unauthorized removal of materials into or from trash and recycling containers in our community. Did you know that it is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 or six months in jail or both? (California Penal Code Section 374.3)

When people remove items placed at the curb without your authorization, it is illegal. You can help deter the bandits by reporting violations to the Police Department. Useful information would be a vehicle description, liscense number and description of the suspect(s). Pictures are helpful too.

The City relies on the value of the material recycled which is sold to help cover the cost of recycling in our community. So when they take the bottles and cans out or put trash in with the recycling, it hurts all of us.
