Shoe Recycling

Each year, several cities in our region participate in the Reuse-A-Shoe program, an effort to collect old athletic shoes that are then separated and crushed for use in athletic surfaces.

What Kinds of Athletic Shoes Can Be Recycled? Any kind of athletic shoes can be recycled: basketball, running, walking, cross training, and tennis shoes. Sorry, any shoes with metal eyelets (for laces), or plastic or metal cleats CAN NOT be recycled and must go in the trash. Also, no flip flops, formal shoes, dress shoes, or sandals. Only athletic shoes without metal eyelets or plastic/metal cleats can be accepted.

For information, call the City of Barstow at (760) 256-3531 ext. 3295 or your local recycling coordinator.

Businesses are also encouraged to create drop off boxes for this program. Call 1-888-URECYCLE for more information.
